The purpose of Special Purpose Award in Training & Development (6S3372) is designed to equip the learner with the knowledge skills and competence to identify training and development needs and to devise, deliver and evaluate a training intervention within a range of training and development contexts.

It is learner centered, interactive and designed to ensure that students can apply their learning once they are in an environment which requires them to design, delivery, assess and evaluate training programmes.

Who Should Complete?

The Special Purpose Award in Training & Development (6S3372) is designed for individuals who are involved in or responsible for training and development activities within their organisation. This course is suitable for trainers, training coordinators, HR professionals, learning and development specialists, and anyone tasked with designing, delivering, or evaluating training programmes. It provides participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively plan, deliver, and assess training initiatives, enhancing their capabilities in the field of training and development.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in this course, learners must meet the standards of knowledge, skills, and competence associated with the preceding level of the National Framework of Qualifications.

Ideally a minimum of Level 5 certificate standard of education or base qualification on which to use the training qualification.

Proficiency in written and spoken English, as well as computer literacy skills, are essential. Students undertaking Level 6 courses are expected to demonstrate proficiency in reading, drafting, preparing, and comprehending information across various topics. Basic IT skills and access to necessary equipment such as a computer, broadband, email, Microsoft Office, and recording equipment are required for skills demonstration tasks. Additionally, learners must be capable of self-directed study as this course is delivered through blended learning.


Successful completion of this component award enables the learner to transfer to programmes leading to other certificates where this component is a mandatory or an elective requirement.

Upon successful completing of the major award, learners can progress to relevant Level 7 components.

Upon successful completion of the course, learners will be awarded a QQI Special Purpose Award in Training & Development (6S3372)

To achieve the Special Purpose Award in Training & Development (6S3372), both Training Needs Identification and Design (6N3325) and Training Delivery and Evaluation (6N3326) must be completed.

QQI (Quality & Qualifications Ireland) serves as the national accrediting body for further education and training in Ireland.
