The Special Needs Assisting module (6N1957) aims to equip individuals with the requisite knowledge, skills, and competencies to assist those with special educational needs in their educational and care journeys. Similarly, this blended course endeavours to empower learners with the abilities necessary to ensure fair educational opportunities for individuals with special needs. Throughout the course, learners will explore diverse educational avenues available for children in Ireland within the existing legislative framework. 

Offered through blended learning, this QQI accredited course provides flexibility, allowing students to conveniently study from home or work while earning a national qualification. 

Who Should Complete?  

Those who have successfully completed a Level 5 SNA course and want to further their education and training in this area. Many opt for the part-time learning pathway to attain the qualification.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have a minimum of Level 5 certificate in Special Needs Assisting.

Proficiency in written and spoken English, along with computer literacy skills, is crucial. Students enrolling in Level 6 courses are expected to exhibit proficiency in reading, drafting, preparing, and comprehending information on various topics. Basic IT skills and access to necessary equipment such as a computer, broadband, email, Microsoft Office, and recording equipment are necessary for skills demonstration tasks. Additionally, learners must be capable of self-directed study as this course is delivered through blended learning.

Progression

Upon successful completion of this course, individuals can pursue employment as an SNA in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), at primary or secondary levels. Moreover, it provides possible avenues Third-Level Education. Barrow Training offers a progression pathway with Southeast Technological University (SETU) upon completion of select childcare courses.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a QQI Component Certificate in Special Needs Assisting (6N1957)

QQI (Quality & Qualifications Ireland) serves as the national accrediting body for further education and training in Ireland.
