The purpose of this module is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence required for employment in a Social Care Setting. It will introduce learners to the area of sociology and social studies and to develop their understanding and awareness of social issues in their own lives and society in general. Learners will develop basic research skills and learn to recognise the complexity of social issues.
This module will introduce learners to a fascinating range of subjects, reflecting upon areas of social science including individualism, culture influences & social behaviour.

Entry Requirements
To access programmes leading to this award the learner should have reached the standards of knowledge, skill and competence associated with the preceding level of the National Framework of Qualifications. This may have been achieved through a formal qualification or through relevant life and work experience.
Ideally a minimum of Level 4 certificate standard of education and a strong interest in the provision of quality care in a healthcare setting.
Proficiency in written and spoken English, as well as computer literacy skills, are essential. Students undertaking Level 6 module s are expected to demonstrate proficiency in reading, drafting, preparing, and comprehending information across various topics. Basic IT skills and access to necessary equipment such as a computer, broadband, email, Microsoft Office, and recording equipment are required for skills demonstration tasks. Additionally, learners must be capable of self-directed study as this module is delivered through blended learning.
Progression
Successful completion of Social Studies (5N1370) enables the learner to transfer to programmes leading to other certificates where this component is a mandatory or an elective requirement.
Social Studies (5N1370) is an elective module towards the Healthcare Support Level 5 – 5M4339 Major Award.
Upon successful completion of the module, learners will be awarded a QQI minor component Award in Social Studies (5N1370)
