The purpose of Food Safety and HACCP (5N5266) is designed to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the regulations and practices that underpin food safety and the principles and practices underpinning the implementation of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) .

Food Safety and HACCP (5N5266) is recommended for individuals working in the food industry, particularly those involved in food preparation, handling, and service. This module is suitable for food handlers, chefs, kitchen staff, food service managers, and anyone responsible for ensuring food safety and implementing Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles in their workplace. Additionally, professionals in regulatory agencies and those seeking to enhance their knowledge of food safety practices can benefit from completing this module.

Entry Requirements

To access programmes leading to this award the learner should have reached the standards of knowledge, skill and competence associated with the preceding level of the National Framework of Qualifications. This may have been achieved through a formal qualification or through relevant life and work experience.

Ideally a minimum of Level 4 certificate standard of education.

Proficiency in written and spoken English, as well as computer literacy skills, are essential. Students undertaking Level 6 module s are expected to demonstrate proficiency in reading, drafting, preparing, and comprehending information across various topics. Basic IT skills and access to necessary equipment such as a computer, broadband, email, Microsoft Office, and recording equipment are required for skills demonstration tasks. Additionally, learners must be capable of self-directed study as this module is delivered through blended learning.

Progression

Successful completion of Food Safety and HACCP (5N5266) enables the learner to transfer to programmes leading to other certificates where this component is a mandatory or an elective requirement.

Upon successful completion of the module, learners will be awarded a QQI minor component Award in Food Safety and HACCP (5N5266).
